BookThis Alsace Grand Cru wine tour is for wine lovers who care more about slopes, soils and labels than about shopping streets. Your private driver picks you up at your hotel in Strasbourg at 10:00 and takes you to five of the 51 Alsace Grand Cru vineyards, from the Schoenenbourg above Riquewihr to the Eichberg and Pfersigberg above Eguisheim. You walk into the vines, taste at Dopff & Irion and Domaine Weinbach, and are back around 19:00.
Itinerary, hour by hour
10:00
Pick-up at your hotel in Strasbourg
Your FJ13 driver meets you in the lobby. The drive to Riquewihr takes about 55 minutes on the A35, and your driver shares local tips along the way.
No free time, driving
Around 11:00
Riquewihr: the Schoenenbourg and a tasting at Dopff & Irion
Start in the vines, not in the shops. A short walk up from the town walls takes you into the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru, a steep, south and southeast facing hillside of 53 hectares where Voltaire once owned parcels. Then walk down to the Dopff & Irion cellar, 1 cour du Château, for your first tasting. The cellar shop opens every day, and individual visitors need no appointment.
About 1 h 45, vineyard walk and tasting included in this time
Around 13:00
Kaysersberg, lunch
Kaysersberg is about 15 minutes away, at the mouth of a valley with seven Grand Cru vineyards. FJ13 suggests lunch at La Winstub du Chambard, at your own pace and cost: book a table ahead.
About 1 h 30 of free time, lunch included in this time
Around 14:35
Domaine Weinbach, below the Schlossberg
A 5 minute drive takes you to Domaine Weinbach, 25 Route du Vin in Kaysersberg Vignoble, built by Capuchin monks in 1612 at the foot of the Schlossberg. The Schlossberg was the first Alsace vineyard to receive the Alsace Grand Cru appellation, in 1975. Its granite terraces are held by more than 1,000 meters of old stone walls. Domaine Weinbach receives visitors by appointment only, and the tasting is paid. FJ13 can request the appointment for you.
About 1 h 15, tasting included in this time
Around 16:05
Turckheim: the Brand
About 15 minutes south, the Brand Grand Cru rises right above Turckheim. Its name means burned: the granite slope faces south and southeast and gets about 1,800 hours of sun a year. The Sentier du Dragon, a marked vineyard trail, starts at the Turckheim tourist office. The full loop is 3.5 km and takes about 2 hours, so you walk only its first part, up into the Brand.
About 50 minutes of free time
Around 17:10
Eguisheim: the Eichberg and the Pfersigberg
Eguisheim is about 15 minutes from Turckheim, with two Grand Crus on its doorstep. The Eichberg has some of the lowest rainfall in the Colmar area, and the Pfersigberg is known for Gewurztraminer. The Eguisheim vineyard trail starts on rue du Bassin and has panels on the geology of both. Walk its lower part, or stroll the round streets of the old village.
About 50 minutes of free time
Around 18:00
Drive back to Strasbourg
Your driver meets you at an agreed point in Eguisheim. The drive back takes about 1 hour, for a drop-off at your hotel around 19:00, within the 10 hours of a full day.
No free time, driving
Who this is for
- Wine lovers who already know Alsace grape names and now want to see where the Grand Cru labels come from.
- Couples and friends who all want to taste, with nobody behind the wheel.
- Groups of up to 7 people who want one van, one driver and one shared plan.
Who this is not for
- First-time visitors who want to see the best-known towns: the Alsace wine route day tour covers Obernai, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and Colmar.
- Travelers on a tight budget: a shared minibus wine tour from Colmar costs less per person and often includes tastings.
- Anyone who cannot walk on steep, uneven vineyard tracks: the views from the van are good, but the walks are the point of this day.
- Groups of 8 or more: you need two vans, so ask for a quote through the quote configurator.
- Travelers who want commentary on soils and history at every stop: your driver shares local tips but gives no site commentary, so add a certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost).
Included
- A private driver for the whole day, only for your group
- Pick-up and drop-off at your hotel in Strasbourg
- A heated, air-conditioned private van for 1 to 7 passengers
- Tolls and parking fees
- Bottled water in the vehicle
- A flexible itinerary: swap, shorten or extend stops on the day
- Storage of your wine purchases in the locked vehicle between stops
Not included
- Wine tastings: the content and price are set by each estate and paid there
- Meals, drinks and wine purchases
- Tips for your driver
- A certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost)
- Waiting time beyond 15 minutes after the agreed meeting time, which is billed
Practical notes
- Tastings: Dopff & Irion and Domaine Weinbach decide what they pour on the day. If you want a specific Grand Cru wine, ask the estate when FJ13 books the visit.
- Domaine Weinbach: visits by appointment only, Monday to Friday 9:30 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:30, Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00, closed on Sundays. On a Sunday, FJ13 plans the day differently with you.
- Dopff & Irion: the Riquewihr cellar shop opens every day, 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, 10:00 to 13:30 and 14:00 to 18:00 on weekends and public holidays. Groups are asked to contact the estate ahead.
- Season: from May to October the vines are green and the walks are at their best. During harvest, tractors use the vineyard tracks and winemakers are busy.
- Shoes and weather: wear closed walking shoes, since vineyard tracks are steep and gravelly in places. There is little shade in the vines, and cellars stay cool all year.
- Alcohol and minors: French law forbids selling or offering alcohol to anyone under 18, so teenagers can come along but will not taste. A baby seat or booster is available on request.
- Accessibility: FJ13 has no wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and the vans have no ramp. If walking uphill is hard, your driver can stop at viewpoints closer to the road instead.

Frequently asked questions
If we skip the Turckheim stop, is the Grand Cru day any cheaper?
No. The price depends on the duration of the service, from pick-up to drop-off, not on the number of stops. Skipping Turckheim does not lower the price, but it gives you more time at a tasting or in the Eguisheim vineyards.
Will we taste Grand Cru wines at both estates?
That is up to each estate. Dopff & Irion and Domaine Weinbach set the content and price of their own tastings, and the wines on offer can change with the vintage and stock. Tell FJ13 at booking which wines you hope to taste, and FJ13 passes the request on.
How steep are the vineyard walks on this Grand Cru tour?
Steep enough to feel in your legs, but short. You walk only a few hundred meters uphill at each stop, on farm tracks, and you choose how far you go.
Can we swap one Grand Cru for another, like the Rangen?
Yes, within the 10 hours of a full day. The Rangen above Thann is further south, so it replaces at least one stop. Tell FJ13 which vineyards matter most to you, and the route is rebuilt around them.
Can we ship the bottles we buy home from the estates?
Ask each estate directly, since shipping depends on the estate and on your country. Bottles you carry ride back to your hotel in the locked van.
