Book

This Alsace wine tour from Strasbourg is for couples, friends and families who want to taste Alsace wine without anyone having to drive. Your private driver picks you up at your hotel at 10:00 and follows the Alsace Wine Route south through Obernai, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg, with self-guided time in each town and two tastings at the estates FJ13 works with: Dopff & Irion in Riquewihr and Domaine Weinbach in Kaysersberg. You end in Colmar before the drive back, around 19:00.

Itinerary, hour by hour

  1. 10:00

Pick-up at your hotel in Strasbourg

Your FJ13 driver meets you in the lobby. The drive to Obernai takes about 30 minutes, and your driver shares local tips along the way.

    No free time, driving

  2. Around 10:30

    Obernai

A lively small town at the northern end of the vineyards, with ramparts, half-timbered houses and a busy market square. A good first stop for a coffee and a short walk.

About 45 minutes of free time

  3. Around 11:50

Riquewihr, tasting at Dopff & Irion

About 35 minutes south, Riquewihr sits inside its town walls, below the Schoenenbourg and Sporen Grand Crus. Your first tasting is at the Dopff & Irion cellar, 1 cour du Château, in the old town. The cellar shop opens every day, and tastings at the counter need no appointment for individual visitors. Then walk up the main street to the Dolder tower, built in 1291.

About 1 h 30, tasting included in this time

  4. Around 13:35

    Kaysersberg, lunch

Kaysersberg is about 15 minutes from Riquewihr, with a castle ruin above the town. FJ13 suggests lunch at La Winstub du Chambard, at your own pace and cost: book a table ahead.

About 1 h 30 of free time, lunch included in this time

  5. Around 15:10

    Domaine Weinbach, second tasting

A 5 minute drive takes you to Domaine Weinbach, 25 Route du Vin in Kaysersberg Vignoble, at the foot of the Schlossberg hill. Capuchin monks built the estate in 1612. Domaine Weinbach receives visitors by appointment only, Monday to Saturday, and the tasting is paid. FJ13 can request the tasting appointment for you.

About 1 h, tasting included in this time

  6. Around 16:30

    Colmar

A 20 minute drive brings you to the edge of the Colmar old town. Walk through Petite Venise and the streets around the Koïfhus, or sit down for a last glass. Prefer a quieter village? Swap Colmar for Eguisheim.

    About 1 h 20 of free time

  7. Around 17:50

    Drive back to Strasbourg

Your driver meets you at an agreed point in Colmar. The drive back takes about 1 hour, for a drop-off at your hotel around 19:00, within the 10 hours of a full day.

    No free time, driving

Who this is for

  • Couples and friends staying in Strasbourg who all want to taste, with nobody stuck behind the wheel.
  • First-timers who want a simple overview of Alsace wine: four towns, two estates, and one day.
  • Groups of up to 7 people who want one vehicle, one driver and one shared plan.
  • Wine buyers who want to bring back bottles without carrying them from village to village.
  • Travelers who want the Alsace Wine Route without planning train and shuttle connections.

Who this is not for

  • Solo travelers or couples on a tight budget: a shared minibus wine tour from Colmar costs less per person and often includes tastings.
  • Serious collectors who want long cellar visits at specific estates: tell FJ13 at booking and build a tailor-made day with fewer villages instead.
  • Groups of 8 or more: you need two vans, so ask for a quote through the quote configurator.
  • Travelers who only want Colmar: the TER Grand Est regional train from Strasbourg takes about 30 minutes and costs far less.
  • Anyone who wants detailed history at each stop: your driver shares local tips but gives no site commentary, so add a certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost).

Included

  • A private driver for the whole day, only for your group
  • Pick-up and drop-off at your hotel in Strasbourg
  • A heated, air-conditioned private van for 1 to 7 passengers
  • Tolls and parking fees
  • Bottled water in the vehicle
  • A flexible itinerary: swap, shorten or extend stops on the day
  • Storage of your wine purchases in the locked vehicle between stops

Not included

  • Wine tastings, paid directly to the estate where a fee applies
  • Meals, drinks and wine purchases
  • Site entries
  • Tips for your driver
  • A certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost)
  • Waiting time beyond 15 minutes after the agreed meeting time, which is billed

Practical notes

  • Season: this tour runs all year. From May to October the vines are green and the villages are at their liveliest. During harvest, winemakers are busy and tastings can be shorter.
  • Dopff & Irion: the Riquewihr cellar shop opens every day, 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, 10:00 to 13:30 and 14:00 to 18:00 on weekends and public holidays. Groups are asked to contact the estate ahead.
  • Domaine Weinbach: visits by appointment only, Monday to Friday 9:30 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:30, Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00, closed on Sundays. On a Sunday, FJ13 plans a different second tasting with you.
  • Pace: two tastings leave room to enjoy the towns. You can add a third, but plan to shorten another stop.
  • Alcohol and minors: French law forbids selling or offering alcohol to anyone under 18, so teenagers can come along but will not taste. A baby seat or booster is available on request.
  • Cobblestones and slopes: Riquewihr has a sloping, cobbled main street, and Kaysersberg has cobbled lanes. Obernai and central Colmar are flatter.
  • Clothing: wear comfortable shoes. Cellars stay cool all year, so bring a light layer even in summer.
  • Accessibility: FJ13 has no wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and the vans have no ramp. Travelers who can walk a few steps are welcome, and your driver helps with getting in and out.

Frequently asked questions

Will the day cost less if we drop Obernai and go straight to the wine villages?

No. The price of this tour depends on the duration of the service, from pick-up to drop-off, not on the number of stops. Dropping Obernai does not lower the price, but it gives you more time at a tasting or in Colmar.

Do we need an appointment to taste at Domaine Weinbach?

Yes. Domaine Weinbach receives visitors by appointment only, Monday to Saturday, and the tasting is paid directly to the estate, not included in the tour price. FJ13 can request the tasting appointment for you, so give your date and group size when you book.

Can we pick the wineries ourselves?

Yes. By default FJ13 takes you to Dopff & Irion and Domaine Weinbach, but if you have other estates in mind, tell FJ13 at booking and the route is built around them. Many estates prefer a booking, so give the names as early as you can.

How do we get the bottles we buy back to our hotel?

Leave them in the van. Your driver locks the vehicle between stops, and your bottles ride back to your hotel in Strasbourg with you. If you fly home, ask each estate about shipping.

Can this wine day start from a hotel in Colmar instead?

Yes. FJ13 can pick you up at a hotel in Colmar, at the same price as from Strasbourg. The route then runs in reverse or loops around Colmar.

Can someone explain the history of the villages on this wine day?

Your driver shares local tips but gives no site commentary. For history, book a certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost), who rides in the van with your group and speaks English. It is available on full days, ideally booked 3 weeks ahead.
