BookThis Alsace villages tour is for travelers with only a morning or an afternoon to spare in Strasbourg. In about 4 hours 30, your private driver takes you to two villages that fit the time: Obernai, a lively small town close to Strasbourg, and Riquewihr, the walled wine village further south. You get self-guided time in each village and a van that waits for you. This half day is the minimum booking with FJ13.
Itinerary, hour by hour
09:00 (or 14:00)
Pick-up at your hotel in Strasbourg
Your FJ13 driver meets you in the lobby. The drive to Obernai takes about 30 minutes on the A35, and your driver shares local tips along the way.
No free time, driving
Around 09:30
Obernai
Start on the Place du Marché, Obernai's market square, with the Halle aux Blés (the old wheat hall) and the Kapellturm, a belfry whose spire rises to 60 m. The old streets around the square are flat and easy to walk.
About 1 hour of free time
Around 11:05
Riquewihr
The drive south to Riquewihr takes about 35 minutes. Inside the walls, walk up the main street to the Dolder, the 25 m gate tower built in 1291, and browse the wine shops and bakeries on the way.
About 1 h 20 of free time
Around 12:25
Drive back to Strasbourg
Your driver meets you at the agreed point outside the walls. The drive back takes about 55 minutes, for a drop-off at your hotel around 13:30 (or 18:30 for an afternoon tour).
No free time, driving
Who this is for
- Travelers with one free morning or afternoon in Strasbourg who still want to see two Alsace villages.
- River cruise passengers and business travelers who need to be back at the hotel at a fixed time.
- Couples and families who want the flexibility of a private van without paying for a full day.
- Groups of up to 7 people who want one van, one driver and one shared plan.
- Visitors who want Riquewihr, which has no train station, without renting a car.
Who this is not for
- Travelers who only want Obernai: the TER Grand Est regional train from Strasbourg to Obernai is direct and takes about 32 minutes, with up to 2 trains an hour at peak times (check SNCF Connect for the current fare).
- Visitors who want Colmar, a castle and a wine village in one go: take the full-day Colmar, Riquewihr and Haut-Koenigsbourg day tour.
- Anyone who wants detailed commentary: a certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost) can join full days only, not half days.
- Budget solo travelers: a shared coach tour from Strasbourg costs less per person, with a fixed schedule and a larger group.
- Groups of 8 or more: you need two vans, so ask for a quote through the quote configurator.
Included
- A private driver for about 4 hours 30, only for your group
- Pick-up and drop-off at your hotel in Strasbourg
- A heated, air-conditioned private van for 1 to 7 passengers
- Tolls and parking fees
- Bottled water in the vehicle
- A flexible plan: change the order or the length of each stop on the day
Not included
- Meals, drinks and wine tastings
- Museum entries, such as the Dolder museum in Riquewihr
- Tips for your driver
- Baby seats and boosters, available on request at booking
Practical notes
- Minimum booking: this half day of about 4 hours 30 is the shortest tour FJ13 offers. Shorter trips are quoted as transfers through the quote configurator.
- Morning or afternoon: a morning start at 09:00 gets you into Riquewihr before the midday crowds. An afternoon start at 14:00 suits late risers and lunch in Strasbourg.
- Winter light: in December the sun sets around 16:35 in Strasbourg, so an afternoon tour ends in Riquewihr after dark. That is lovely during the Christmas market season, less so in January.
- Crowds: Riquewihr gets busy on weekends, especially in summer and December. A weekday morning gives you the quietest streets.
- Cobblestones and slopes: Riquewihr's main street is cobbled and climbs to the Dolder. Obernai's center is mostly flat.
- Accessibility: FJ13 has no wheelchair-accessible vehicle, and the vans have no ramp. Travelers who can walk a few steps are welcome, and your driver helps with getting in and out.
- Clothing: wear comfortable shoes with good grip, and bring a layer. The wine villages sit at the foot of the Vosges and can be cooler than Strasbourg.

Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper if we only visit one village?
No. The price depends on the duration of the service, from pick-up to drop-off, and on the itinerary, not on the number of stops. Seeing only Obernai or only Riquewihr does not lower the price of the half day. It simply gives you more time in the village you choose.
Can we book the driver for just 2 hours?
Not as a tour. The half day of about 4 hours 30 is the minimum booking for a village tour with FJ13. If you only need a ride from Strasbourg to one village, ask for a transfer quote through the quote configurator.
Can we add a certified guide-conferencier to the half day?
No. A certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost) is available on full days only. If you want commentary in English, book a full day such as the Colmar, Riquewihr and Haut-Koenigsbourg day tour and add a certified guide-conferencier (optional, extra cost).
Why Obernai and Riquewihr, and not Colmar, in half a day?
Obernai is about 30 minutes from Strasbourg, and Riquewihr about 55 minutes. Together they leave about 2 h 20 of free time in 4 hours 30. Colmar deserves more time than a half day allows once you add a village, and it is easy to reach by train on its own.
Can we have lunch in Riquewihr on the morning tour?
A quick one, yes. You arrive around 11:05 and leave around 12:25, which is enough for a snack or a short sit-down meal. For a relaxed lunch, choose the afternoon start and eat in Strasbourg first, or extend to a full day.
